Grove City, PA - Since returning from its Florida trip in mid-March, the Geneva College softball team has not lost a game. The Golden Tornadoes pushed their current winning streak to eight games and remained unbeaten in the conference with a doubleheader sweep at Grove City on Saturday. Geneva won the first game 7-2 and rallied from behind to take an 8-5 decision in game two. The sweep moved Geneva to 12-8 overall and 6-0 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

Geneva got on the board in the first inning of game one when Leah Prisuta scored on a Laura Beck double to the right centerfield gap. The Golden Tornadoes pushed three more runs across in the third highlighted by an Ashley Davis RBI double and a Samantha Johnson run scoring base hit. In the fifth, Geneva scored two more runs with Davis coming up with another RBI double. Geneva′s final run in the sixth inning came on an RBI ground out off of Christina Fuqua′s bat. Samantha Johnson went the distance for her seventh victory of the season. Johnson did not allow an earned run on six hits with five strikeouts. Geneva′s offense collected ten hits with Laura Beck posting three hits and Davis and Leah Prisuta collecting two each.

Johnson came on in the fourth inning of game two to register her eighth victory of the season. Andrea Hinds went the first 3+ innings before Johnson re-entered the game. Johnson did not allow a hit in her four innings that included a pair of strikeouts. Geneva′s offense had eight hits including two each from Leah Prisuta and Samantha Johnson. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Geneva scored three in the bottom of the inning. Leah Prisuta′s base hit knocked in Dayna Hicks. Prisuta scored on a double steal and Ashley Davis′ sacrifice fly knocked in Fuqua.

Grove City answered with three runs in the third and another in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Geneva regained the lead with three runs of its own. Fuqua knocked in a run with a base hit and Laura Beck came up with a two run single to grab the lead at 6-5. Elyssa Simko′s RBI double in the fifth extended the lead before she scored a run on a throwing error to give the Golden Tornadoes some more breathing room.

Geneva will head back home to face Bethany College on Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
