Washington, PA - Washington & Jefferson College played host to the 2013 Presidents′ Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Geneva College served itself quite well and brought home three conference titles for their efforts. Nick Edinger, after one of the most dominating careers in Geneva history, was finally able to claim a conference title in the 5000 meter race. Edinger finished a full 23 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor with a mark of 15:11.28. Meanwhile, Geneva′s Tyler French cruised to a conference title in the shot put with a final throw of 47-10, which was over eight feet better than the second place competitor. In women′s action, Alayna Merkle took home a conference title in the 1500 meter race by edging out an opponent from Washington & Jefferson by under one second.
In other women′s action, Merkle was also impressive in the 800 meter event with a second place finish and just two seconds away from another title. Merkle and Sarah-Noel Meek finished four and five respectively in the 5000 meter race while teammates Katherine Michalak, Sara Williams and Kayla Jackson each finished in the top five in the shot put. Jackson also placed third in the javelin.
In men′s action, Josh Guiser placed seventh in the 100 meter finals while Jacob Mellinger managed a sixth place finish in the 200 meter event. Edinger, in addition to winning the 5000 meter race, finished second in the 10000 meter event with a finishing time of 32:31.61. French was also doing double duty on Saturday with a fourth place finish in the discus. Finally, Jordan Rupert finished third in the javelin.
In the team results, Waynesburg′s women took home first place as did the men from Westminster College. Geneva′s women finished fifth overall with 55 points while the men′s team picked up 67.5 points and a sixth place finish.
