Alliance, PA - The Geneva College men′s and women′s track and field team traveled to Ohio on Saturday to compete at the Mt. Union "John Homon" Invitational. The weather conditions for the first time this spring were ideal for scoring and several of Geneva′s student-athletes took advantage of those conditions.

Most notably, the distance runners for Geneva were most impressive in the names of Alayna Merkle for the women and Nick Edinger for the men. Merkle crossed the line in 18:50 in the 5000 meter event and took home the top prize against a very impressive field. Edinger ran a 15:06 time in the 5000 meter event and beat all other college competitors.

In the women′s field events, Katherine Michalak and Sara Williams each turned in top five finishes in the shot put. Michalak finished third overall with a distance of 38-02.75 and Williams was fifth at 38-08.50. Mary Keen turned in a seventh place finish in the discus with a mark of 111-06. Finally, Kayla Jackson and Lydia Steele each cracked the top five in the javelin.

In men′s action, Ed Schuster and Stephen Polite finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 100 meter dash. Jacob Mellinger turned in a pair of top performances with an eighth place finish in the 200 meter event and a fifth place spot in the 400 meter race. Tyler French took top billing for the men in the field events with a seventh place finish in the shot put and a second place spot in the discus. Jordan Rupert was once again impressive with a second place finish in the javelin with a distance of 162-08.
