Geneva College′s recently chartered section of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) intends to continue the SWE′s six-decade mission of providing woman engineers a voice in a mainly male-dominant industry. The SWE is passionate about its members′ successes and strives to open doors for further opportunities.
"We want to show women that they are capable of more technical fields such as engineering, computer science and mathematics," says current Geneva SWE President Jessica Clark. "We plan to do this by reaching out into the community and introducing the young ladies to different parts of these fields with fun experiments and activities."
Other members of the Geneva SWE include Vice President Kathryn Horn, Secretary and Treasurer Jilliane Paquet, and Lauren Beck, Rebecca Dimidik, Patricia Groves, Elizabeth McPeek, Shannon Rech, Hannah Rich, and Abigail Wallace.
The SWE′s mission statement is to, "Stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity." In addition, the organization revolves around the ideas of "integrity," establishing an "inclusive environment," "mutual support," "professional excellence," and "trust."
