Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College women′s tennis team continued its climb to prominence last season with a player qualifying in each post-season flight. The Golden Tornadoes had one player advance to a conference championship match for the second consecutive season. Finishing in a two way tie with Waynesburg University for fourth place was another example of the continuing improvements and consistency by Geneva College and head coach Mandee Craft. With an 8-6 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the PAC, coach Craft structured another successful campaign for the Golden Tornadoes.
Similar to past years, Craft only saw one senior graduate from the 2012 squad, and is looking forward to a strong core of returners, including all eight starters from the tournament line-up, as the team embarks on the 2013 crusade. "They're all working hard to make their last year a memorable one. Their leadership will also be key to our success," explains coach Craft. Standouts include senior singles competitors Julie Kline, Alyssa Kuhn, and Christine Bullock, as well as experienced doubles teams of Brittany Kress/Courtney Light and Jen Bullock/Samantha Jensen. Starting a new season with so many veteran players allows for a seamless transition and provides a great starting point for two freshmen, with successful high school careers, to join the mature group.
"This fall has the potential to be our best season in many years," says Craft. "We are returning a very experienced line-up. This senior class has won more individual matches than any class in my time here at Geneva, and they have a combined 19 years of college experience. I'm looking forward to seeing how our two freshmen fit into the picture as well. I know we'll be strong, so I think, in the end, it will come down to what the other teams in the PAC bring in."
Success throughout the last two seasons for the women′s tennis team has set a standard that future teams plan to build upon. The program is being led in the right direction by its coach, Mandee Craft, and veteran crew as they try to find the finishing touch to take them to the next level. Craft, who is beginning her 12th season at the helm will rely on her years of experience as well as a senior laden group of ladies that are determined to make some Geneva tennis history in 2013.
