geneva_tornado_logo.jpgBeaver Falls, PA - After finishing the 2011 season as champions of the Presidents′ Athletic Conference, the 2012 season did not live up to the women′s volleyball team′s expectations. The team completed the 2012 campaign with an impressive 24-13 overall record and 13-5 in conference play. The fourth place finish in the PAC was still enough to earn a spot in the playoffs but hopes soon fizzled as they saw their first match to defend their title end in a loss.

As the 2013 season begins, all heads are up as the women′s volleyball team is ready to take no prisoners with their eyes set on taking the PAC Championship and returning to the NCAA tournament in the post-season. Co-head coaches Curt Conser and Wendy Smith enter their 14th season leading the volleyball team. This dynamic duo has put together more victories than any coach in Geneva volleyball history and the 2013 season looks to be more of the same. "We were more than a little disappointed (with last year′s outcome). But with all failures, it is about learning, regrouping, and refocusing. This year′s squad is ready to go hard after excellence, and honor God with our effort and attitude," says Coach Smith.

After losing a trio of successful seniors, the volleyball team is looking for seniors Deanna Briody and Ashley Davis, both All-PAC second team selections, to lead the team successfully through what is expected to be a fierce PAC season. As far as newcomers are concerned, the coaches are excited to bring five freshmen in to challenge for starting spots immediately. "We have a strong array of hitters ready to compete for the open spots left by graduating seniors, some are returners and some are new to the squad this year. All of them have been working hard to come in ready for the challenge," remarks the coaches. Returning after a season ending injury, Erin Smith is a player that coaches hope will make an immediate impact in the beginning of the season. "She contributed her freshmen year but missed the entire 2012 season, so we hope that she is ready to play," says Coach Conser.

All eyes are on the 2013 campaign as the women′s volleyball team focuses on the next match before them. Never getting caught up in what is beyond their control but instead looking to prepare for what is right in front of them.
