Bradford, PA - The Geneva Women′s Soccer (GWS) team opened their 2013 season on the field of University of Pittsburgh′s Bradford campus. A preseason injury to returning sophomore goalkeeper Anna McMullen called senior Karmyn Culberton to the net. Despite the shuffling of plans, the GT′s played a solid game but still fell short to the Panthers with a final decision of 3-1.

Pitt Bradford′s Melissa Smith found the back of the new 18 minutes into the game, leaving Geneva down by one at the half. The Panthers did not take their foot off the gas pedal as forward Maggie Boehler scored less than one minute into the second half of play. Geneva fought back and found the fruits of their labor when Heidi Mann found Kimmy Orihel with a pass to get on the scoreboard. In the end, Geneva′s strike back could not produce a win. Smith sealed the Panthers win with a third team goal, her second in the last 15 minutes of the game. In the midst of the loss, Culberston gather five saves after facing 12 Panther shots.

The Golden Tornadoes will have a full week of rest before returning on the field away at the University of Pittsburgh′s Greensburg Campus. The game is scheduled on Saturday September 7th with a start time of 3 p.m.
