spoon_river.jpgAuditions for the fall theatre production of The Spoon River Anthology are being held on September 2 and 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bagpiper Theater next to Alexander Hall. Copies of The Spoon River Anthology, as well as other audition materials, are available in McCartney Library. All students are welcomed and encouraged to attend auditions.

Parts are available for six to 10 men and six to 10 women. Although the production is not a musical, the play includes musical selections and some choral work, so singing ability is a plus. Musicians to play hymns and old style music in a small acoustic ensemble are needed, as are crew members.

The Spoon River Anthology depicts the poetry written by the deceased denizens of a small-town graveyard. Based on the poetry of Edgar Lee Master, the material was adapted for Geneva′s stage by director Mindy George.

The show will premiere on Thursday, October 24, with further showings on the 25 and 26, as well as on the following week, October 31, November 1 and November 2. All shows are at 8 p.m., except for the Saturday matinee shows, which are at 2 p.m.

For students who are interested in being a part of this and other theatre production, an Introduction to the Theater Season session will be held on September 2 at 6 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to meet the directors and learn about the shows.
