Geneva continues to have a rough time away from home as they were dealt a 31-14 loss from Waynesburg on Saturday.

Waynesburg, PA - The Geneva College football team has yet to grab a win on the road. The Golden Tornadoes are unbeaten at Reeves Field so far in 2013 but have yet to win one away from home with losses against Carnegie Mellon, Thomas More and today Waynesburg. The 31-14 loss to the Yellow Jackets drops the Golden Tornadoes′ overall record to 4-3, including a 3-2 mark in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

Geneva never led in the game with Waynesburg jumping out to an early 7-0 lead before the Golden Tornadoes managed to knot the game at seven apiece. Yellow Jacket Jake DiGuilio caught quarterback Carter Hill′s three-yard pass for the first touchdown of the afternoon. With less than five minutes left to play in the first quarter, Geneva′s Rocco Colavecchia pushed across the end zone from two yards out for a Geneva touchdown equalizer. Colavecchia would be the only GT to find the Yellow Jacket end zone during the first half of play.

Waynesburg, on the other hand, would continue to throw points on the board. Hill threw another touchdown pass supported by a 38 yard field goal by Alex Henry for a halftime score of 17-7. Geneva′s offensive struggles continued into the third quarter while Hill found Andrew English for a second time in the end zone for a 17 yard touchdown reception that extended Waynesburg′s lead to 24-7.

Geneva closed the gap to 24-14 with a Dylan Jones touchdown (four yard rush) ,unfortunately the efforts were too little too late and couldn′t compete with another Waynesburg touchdown pass with eight minutes left on the clock.

Geneva was only able to muster a total of 246 offensive yards compared to the 443 by Waynesburg. Jones led the rushing attack with 20 yards and a touchdown while Zack Hayward threw for 217 yards on 24-46. Hayward was sacked three times while also tossing a trio of interceptions to the Yellow Jackets. Colavecchia led the Geneva receivers with ten catches for 93 yards while Josh Guiser caught eight for 92 yards (21 long) and Zachary Taylor received three for 17 yards.

On the other side of the ball, John Onufer had 15 tackles including eight solo efforts, 1.5 tackle for loss (3 yards), a pass break up and a three yard sack. Dillon Goodell improved upon his conference leading tackle numbers with 13 on the afternoon while Thomas Benyo broke up two passes in the mix.

Next week Geneva hosts the Grove City Wolverines during Family Weekend looking to remain unbeaten on its home turf. Saturday′s kick-off is scheduled for 1 pm with senior festivities taking place during the pre-game.
