Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva volleyball team hosted Washington & Jefferson (W&J) Thursday night coming off a three set victory over Grove City. The match started out with a solid win in set one but it quickly became a back and forth battle against the W&J Presidents as the night wore on. The Golden Tornadoes finally won 3-2 and improved their record to 11-2 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference (PAC) and 17-9 overall.

Geneva never gave up against W&J as every other game went in their favor. The first set was won handily 25-19. The second set was a different story as Geneva struggled to stay on top and in the end W&J earned a 26-24 win. The third set the Golden Tornadoes fought back to a 25-22 victory but the Presidents claimed a win with an identical score in the fourth set. The final set Geneva stood firm and ended the battle with a 15-9 victory.

The win against W&J was truly a team effort on offense and defense. Ashley Davis led Geneva with 17 kills on the night. Rachel Netherland came in strong in sets three, four and five contributing 16 kills while the most efficient hitter Olivia Test, added 14. Test also led the team with four blocks. On defense, Gabrielle Dickson had a team best of 26 digs with Deanna Briody close behind with 21. Briody supplied 50 assists against W&J putting her with an incredible 4,052 assists in her career.

Saturday the Golden Tornadoes will travel to Saint Vincent for a 12 p.m. match and then move on to Waynesburg next Wednesday at 7 p.m. Finally October 26th the team will return home to host Westminster at 11 a.m.
