nr_prssa.jpgGeneva College′s Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) was recently honored with the 2013 Star Chapter Award. This significant distinction was announced at the opening ceremony to the PRSSA 2013 National Conference held in Philadelphia.

To qualify for the Star Chapter Award, Chapters must meet eight of the 10 requirements that included initiating and completing a community service project, providing an example of how the Chapter gave attention to ethics, and an explanation of how at least one national initiative was implemented.

Geneva′s Chapter is one of only 28 PRSSA Chapters honored with this certificate of recognition in a list that included universities such as West Virginia, Louisiana State and Waynesburg.

"The PR learning programs that they plan and promote for their peers exemplify their dedication to servant-leadership. Their attitude toward PR is grounded in the Chapter′s theme verse from John 3:30, ‘He must increase, but I must decrease,′" said Jeff Schindel, communication professor and advisor to the Geneva College Chapter of the PRSSA. "The PRSSA's recognition of Geneva as a star chapter serves to reinforce our role to be a light for Christ locally and nationally in public relations."

The Geneva College Chapter, which became an official charter of the PRSSA on May 1, 2012, advocates rigorous academic standards for public relations education, the highest ethical principles and diversity in the profession.

Richard Louther, President of the Geneva′s PRSSA Chapter, said, "It is an honor to be presented with this award. Our Chapter worked hard to meet the necessary requirements to be eligible, and I hope to continue this excellence as we strive for our professional development."

The Public Relations Student Society of America is the foremost organization for students interested in public relations and communications. Founded in 1968 by its parent organization, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), PRSSA includes more than 11,000 student members and advisors, and is active at more than 320 colleges and universities.
