Meadville, PA - The Geneva Men′s Basketball team traveled to Meadville, Pennsylvania on Wednesday night to take on the Gators of Allegheny College. With a 1-2 record on the early season, Geneva was on a mission to get back to .500. In an all-out 40 minute battle, Geneva and Allegheny traded punches in a game that remained close throughout. In the final minutes of the game, the Golden Tornadoes′ tremendous lockdown defense and timely scoring proved pivotal as they finished the game on a 13-4 run to defeat Allegheny 67-66.

Both teams traded runs in the first half as Allegheny led by as many as six and Geneva led by as many as seven in the first frame. Trevor York paced the Tornadoes with a fantastic twelve first half points. Freshman Chaese Vaudrin enjoyed another fruitful half of basketball in his young career contributing six points as the Golden Tornadoes trailed the Gators 33-31 at the half.

Neither team let off the gas in the second frame as they traded haymakers for the final 20 minutes of the contest. Jacob Grim began hitting timely buckets in the second half, but it was the Gators who put together the first run in the second half. After a litany of lead changes, Allegheny hit a few crucial shots to give Geneva a 62-54 deficit with only 3:24 remaining in the contest. As this team has consistently shown, they were not interested in giving up so soon.

Critical buckets by Shelton, Vaudrin and Grim narrowed the deficit to only two with just under a minute to play before Nick Shelton buried a colossal three pointer to give Geneva a 67-66 lead that they would not relinquish. Allegheny held the ball for the last shot but a strangling Geneva defense kept the Gators off the board in the final moments and gave the Golden Tornadoes their first road win in two years.

Geneva shot 43 percent on the night and 47 percent in the second half. The Golden Tornadoes also only had a minuscule three turnovers on the night that were converted into only four Allegheny points. Trevor York shot 7-12 from the field and 2-2 from the line to lead Geneva with 17 points. Jacob Grim crafted another stellar night going 7-11 from the floor for 15 points. Jordan Harbison and Chase Vaudrin added 10 points each in the complete Geneva effort.

Coach Jeff Santarsiero remarked after the game, "I am extremely proud of the way this team has battled in every game. They just don′t quit. They are all in it together and they are committed to giving maximum effort at all times. When that is your approach you are going to win the close ones more often than not. I am so proud of our guys tonight."

The Golden Tornadoes will take their 2-2 record back to Geneva College for a home matchup against Laroche College at 3 p.m. on November 23rd. The loss is Allegheny′s first of the year and moves their record to 2-1 in the young season.
