gcm004.jpgHiram, OH - The Geneva Men′s Basketball team recovered nicely from its Thanksgiving dinner as it secured a solid 89-81 victory at Hiram College on Saturday afternoon. After an early season slump, it seems the week off sparked a fire in senior guard Jordan Harbison as he dominated the game with 31 electric points while the Golden Tornadoes secured a key non-conference win in their last game before conference play begins.

Harbison struck early and often for the Golden Tornadoes as he found his stroke from beyond the arc. Looking comfortable and confident with the ball in his hands, Harbison tantalized the Terriers with 15 first half points while making the extra pass when the defense collapsed on him. The Golden Tornadoes played a solid first half of basketball that saw them jump out to a 44-37 lead at the half. Geneva shot 42% from the field in the first half while limiting the Terriers to just 36.8%.

Harbison was not cooled off by the halftime break as he continued his stellar shooting performance in the second half. Between Harbison′s timely three pointers and Chaese Vaudrin′s clutch free throws, Geneva was able to hold off the Terriers while keeping the lead during the entire second half. Geneva led by as many as 12 during the second frame as they held off numerous Hiram surges. With only a three point lead late in the game, a clutch old fashioned three point play by Trevor York put the game away for the Golden Tornadoes with just over a minute to play in regulation. Harbison eclipsed the 30 point mark with two free throws late in the game to give the Golden Tornadoes an 89-81 victory.

Jordan Harbison finished the game shooting 9-16 from the field and a tremendous 8-13 from beyond the arc. Chaese Vaudrin went 9-11 from the foul line while scoring a solid 20 points and dishing out seven assists on the afternoon. Senior Jacob Grim added 15 points for Geneva and Tyler Damazo scored eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the victory.

Geneva shot an outstanding 61.5% from the floor in the second half while scoring 16 points off of 10 Hiram turnovers. Coach Jeff Santarsiero commented after the victory, "It was great to see Jordan (Harbison) finally get into his shooting groove. I′m so proud of the fight that this team brings each and every night. We played a tough non-conference schedule this year and this victory is a great way for us to move into conference play."

The solid victory over Hiram moves Geneva to 3-3 overall on the season. With the loss, Hiram falls to 0-3 on the year. The Golden Tornadoes will host Thiel College to open up conference play on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
