Pittsburgh, PA -The Golden Tornadoes Women′s Basketball team took a hard fall at Carnegie Mellon University in their season opener on Friday night. While they kept the game within reach in the first half, CMU eventually pulled away and defeated Geneva by a final score of 96-66. The loss starts the off Geneva′s year with a 0-1 overall record.

The Golden Tornadoes struggled to contain the balance and consistency of the Tartans as nine CMU players combined for 96 points in the contest. Geneva shot 35.7% from the field and only 2-12 from beyond the arc as the suffocating Tartan defense forced 16 Geneva turnovers on the night. Freshman Miranda Heaney led the Tornadoes with 16 points in her first game as a starter for Geneva. Fellow freshman Nicole Hyland recorded a double double for Geneva with 10 points and 10 assists. Becca Sargent and Mary Keen added 10 and 11 respectively in the loss. The Tartans were led by Lisa Murphy and Chandler Caufield who both scored 18 points for CMU.
