The Golden Tornadoes battled hard all night and led in many key points of the contest, but a rough second half shooting performance led to a 76-70 defeat at the hand of the Celtics.

Beaver Falls, PA- The Geneva Women′s Basketball team hosted Carlow University on Saturday afternoon in its first game back on the hardwood since Thanksgiving. The Golden Tornadoes battled hard all night and led in many key points of the contest, but a rough second half shooting performance led to a 76-70 defeat at the hand of the Celtics.

Geneva performed extremely well in a first half that saw it shoot 48.5% from the floor. A solid all-around half gave the Golden Tornadoes a 40-37 halftime lead. However, the second half told a different story as Geneva struggled from the floor while the Celtics found their shooting form. Carlow slowly took control of the game in the second half of a game that saw six lead changes and five ties. Geneva attempted several late rallies but the Celtics showed consistency at the stripe while capitalizing on quality offensive possessions on a regular basis. The Golden Tornadoes shot 37% in the second half while Carlow converted on 45.5% of their chances in the second frame.

The Celtics outscored Geneva 39-30 in the second half and closed out the Tornadoes to a tune of 76-70. Freshman Nicole Hyland once again paced the Golden Tornadoes in the tough loss shooting 7-12 from the floor for 16 points and added an impressive 11 rebounds to record the double double. Samantha Fisher had a quality night on the hardwood shooting 6-12 and collecting 11 rebounds as well. Miranda and Marissa Heaney both contributed solid efforts for the Golden Tornadoes while scoring 13 and 11 respectively. Carlow was led by Lynzi Mueller who scored a tremendous 25 points and Rachel Roscoe who pitched in 16 points for the Celtics.

The tough loss brings Geneva′s overall record to 0-5 on the season. The win moves Carlow to 4-4. Geneva opens up its conference play on Wednesday as it hosts Thiel College for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
