Beaver Falls, PA- Geneva ended the season on a high note Saturday night with a 2-1 victory over the Bethany Bison. After a season filled with struggles the seniors and their teammates deserved a night where the ball bounced their way. The win improves the Golden Tornado′s PAC record to 3-6 and an overall record of 6-12.
Geneva started the scoring in the 26th minute when Heidi Mann threaded a pass to Kimberly Orihel and she hit a hard shot past Bison goalkeeper Whitney Sparks. All would stay quiet until the second half as Bethany answered with a goal of their own from Julie Slezak who finished off a bouncing ball in the box. The Golden Tornadoes did not let the game stay tied for long with a goal two minutes later in the 60th minute. Heidi Mann muscled through the Bison defense after receiving a pass from Caroline Wright and buried the ball deep into the net. Geneva held the advantage in shots the entire game collecting 24 to Bethany′s four. Geneva goalkeeper Anna McMullen was only forced to make one save in the victory.
Geneva started and ended its conference play with victories. Although the season was peppered with losses the 2013 campaign ended in style with a memorable win that will last in the seniors′ minds forever.
