Beaver Falls, PA- The Geneva College Women′s Basketball team played host to Bethany College on Saturday evening as they hoped to snap its seven game losing streak coming into the game. The Golden Tornadoes played a phenomenal game but were unable to find the winning formula at the end of the game as they were edged by the Bison by a 68-62 final.

Both teams battled for the upper hand in the first eight minutes of the game as the lead was swapped several times. However, with 12 minutes left in the first half, freshman Nicole Hyland converted two clutch buckets that gave Geneva a six point lead that they would build on as the half rolled on. Up by as many as 11 points in the first frame, the Golden Tornadoes dominated the majority of the play while scoring 22 points in the paint and 12 points off of Bethany turnovers. Geneva shot l5-37 for 40% in the first half and took a 37-29 lead into the halftime break.

As has been a common theme throughout the season, the Golden Tornadoes struggled to keep up their pace in the second half. Holding onto their lead for the first five minutes of the half, Bethany slowly wore down Geneva and took its first second half lead with 12:04 left in the contest. However, Geneva battled back and regained the lead once again as Nicole Hyland and Heidi Mann provided timely shots and colossal rebounds as the clock continued to tick. With just two minutes remaining in the contest, the Bison put together a run to take the lead for good. The Golden Tornadoes had a chance to take the lead with a three pointer with only ten seconds remaining but a miss combined with four clutch free throws led to a 68-62 victory for the Bison.

The Golden Tornadoes were crippled by fatigue in the second half and only scored three bench points in the second half. On the other side of the ball, Bethany scored 21 bench points in the second half of play. After a solid first half of shooting, Geneva shot only 8-26 in the second half for 30%.

Nicole Hyland paced the Golden Tornadoes with 20 points and 10 rebounds as she put together another tremendous game. Heidi Mann scored 19 points on 7-13 shooting from the floor and added eight rebounds and four assists to her impressive stat line. Samantha Fisher contributed eight points in the post for Geneva. The Bison were led by Taylor Verrico who scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

The disappointing loss brings Geneva′s record to 0-8 (0-3) on the year. Bethany moves to 3-4 (2-1) with the win. Geneva will now enjoy an extended break for the Christmas holiday before returning to the court for an away match against Franciscan on December 30th.
