In February, Geneva College will host its annual Personal Finance Series, which is designed to answer student questions about money, loans, budgets and saving for the future. Co-sponsored by the Offices of Career Development and Financial Aid, the series features three sessions, each with a unique theme. The events will be held on Tuesdays, February 11, 18, and 25. All are from 5-6:30 p.m. in Alexander Hall′s Benedum Room.
"The personal finance series was created to benefit all students, whether freshmen or seniors or grad students," said Allyson Bentz, Assistant Director of Financial Aid. "Students that have attended in the past often say that this should be a requirement for all students to attend."
The first session, "Personal Finance 101," will focus on how to manage money. Don Williams, President and co-owner of Professional Compounding Pharmacist, will discuss budget preparation and biblical stewardship in regards to finances.
Session two, "Personal Finance 201," will focus on how to manage debt. At this session, a panel of alumni and students will discuss student loan repayment options and consumer debt. For students that RSVP by February 10, additional help will be available in developing a loan repayment strategy.
Lastly, session three, "Personal Finance 301," will focus on how to manage the future. Curt Knotick, CEO and Advisor of Accurate Solution Group, and Joy Doyle, Director of Geneva College′s Career Development Office, will share information regarding the importance of benefits, compensation, retirement and savings plans.
"How we view and steward money now has lifelong impact on our relationships, career decisions, emotional health and more," added Bentz. "There is a lot at stake, and we have a unique opportunity within the Geneva community to learn from Scripture and one another, and to think about this from an eternal perspective at such a formative time."
