WBasketballTeam1314_Play4Kay.jpgBeaver Falls, PA- Cancer doesn′t play favorites. Family members, friends, co-workers, coaches; people all over the world in all circumstances can find themselves in the battle against cancer. During the basketball season many teams decide to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer throughout the month of February. The Geneva College women′s basketball program joins the Play 4Kay organization to kick off the month of pink during the GT′s home game against Chatham on Saturday, February 1 at 2 p.m.

In supporting the efforts of the Play 4Kay initiative the Geneva women′s basketball team will be taking donations at the door during its home game against Chatham University on February 1, tip-off at 2 p.m. Pink t-shirts and stickers will also be for sale with all profits benefiting Play 4Kay. During halftime Geneva will take a few moments to pray for those we know and those around the world who are battling cancer along with their families.

Former North Carolina State University head women′s basketball coach, Kay Yow, has influenced generations of women during her time as a coach. Coach Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. Instead of letting the cancer hurt her spirit she pressed on and became a leading character in the movement of cancer awareness. Before her death, she teamed up with the Women′s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization committed to supporting the fight against cancer. Out of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, Play 4Kay was founded as a branch run by the influence of coaches to fight the common opponent-cancer.
