Beaver Falls, PA- For the 210th meeting of all-time rivals, Geneva and Westminster, fans packed the house making a sea of old gold, white and black with speckles of Titan blue. After a classic Geneva Westminster overtime game, Geneva sang the blues for the eighth straight time after Westminster pulled off a last second bucket win, 80-77. The overtime loss drops Geneva′s overall record to 4-12, 0-7 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.
What seemed like a back in forth game was in reality a big comeback for the GT′s that fell short. Geneva only shot a 33.3% from the field and found a simple pair of three-pointers leaving Geneva trailing Westminster the whole first half of play. In the second half Geneva was able to take advantage of free throws only making 50% of the 18 attempts. It wasn't until 12:11 left on the clock that Geneva took its first lead at 46-45. The last eight minutes contained six lead changes. With an epic rebound-tip combo, Tyler Damazo took Jacob Grim′s missed free throw in the last second of the 40 minutes of regulation and turned it into what can only be described as a Metheny manic overtime.
With Westminster′s high game scorer, Anothony Thomas, triple teamed in the last four seconds of overtime, Westminster handed the ball to the surprising Cameron Pozsgai where he proceeded to sink his second three-pointer of the night for the ‘W′.
Westminster finished the 45 minutes shooting a 44% from the field, 41% from beyond the arch and 81% at the foul line. Lead the Titan attacked as Thomas finishing with 21 points, Charlie Wallander and Paul Carswell with 14 points each. Westminster gave up 21 total personal fouls and 18 turnovers in the rival classic.
Geneva finished out the night shooting 41% from the field, 35% from down town and a harsh 59% from the free throw line. Trevor York led the offense with 17 points supported by Tyler Damazo with 16, and Jordan Harbison and Zac Rorick with 11 points each. Geneva surrendered 16 personal fouls and 14 turnovers in the upset.
Wednesday the Golden Tornadoes take on the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents′ for their third home night game with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
