gcwbball13064.jpgBethany, WV - The Golden Tornadoes stopped a seven-game losing streak as sophomore Heidi Mann (Evangelical Christian Academy, CO) exploded for 24 points, tying her season high in a 59-58 win at Bethany, the team Geneva last defeated in a President′s Athletic Conference game.

Mann, who made nine of 12 field goal attempts and six of seven free throws, gave Geneva the lead four times in the second half, the final time with 7:33 left when she sank a bucket to give the Golden Tornadoes a 50-48 lead.

"Heidi played a strong game for us and the supporting cast played well, too," said Geneva coach Lori Wynn. "We fell behind a little at the start but came back and it was a close game most of the way.

"The girls enjoyed getting the win but they′ve done a real good job of staying positive all season so they never got too far down, but they did appreciate the win."

Mann′s scoring was supplemented by freshman Miranda Heaney (Union, PA) with 11 points. Freshman Nicole Hyland (Penn-Trafford), Geneva′s leading scorer and rebounder, was under the weather but still contributed seven points and nine rebounds, only the second time this season she didn′t have double digits in it least one category.

Geneva is now 2-15 overall and 1-10 in the PAC. The Golden Tornadoes′ last win was December 31 over Franciscan, 58-46. That win was also on the road. Bethany falls to 4-14, 3-8.

Geneva looks to continue its winning streak Saturday at home against Chatham at 2:00.
