Play4KayPreview.jpgBeaver Falls, PA - The Golden Tornadoes′ upset at Bethany College proved one thing; they are not giving up. The first half of conference competition resulted in a 0-8 record for the GTs but like their seasons′ motto, "Forward", the women Golden Tornadoes press on into the second round with impressive strength.

Much of that strength came from sophomore point guard Heidi Mann on Wednesday. Mann scored 24 points (6-7 free throws, 9-12 field goals), tying her season high score against Thiel in December. Freshman Nicole Hyland contributed to the win leading the rebounding game for the GTs with nine. Twins Miranda Heaney wearing number 20 and Marissa Heaney wearing number 21 got in on the scoring action with Miranda Heaney finding three three-pointers and Marissa Heaney a pair of her own.

Chatham returns back north after facing the unbeaten (so far) Thomas More on Wednesday. Under the direction of Head coach Sandy Rectenwald (third year at Chatham) the Cougars have found victories over Southern Virginia (OT 79-70), Geneva (82-39), and Thiel (77-69). Geneva sorely remembers the loss earlier this season in Pittsburgh. The Golden Tornadoes shot only 21.4% from the floor throughout the game while Chatham shot an impressive 45.9%. Chatham guard Rachel McClain broke her own school record by raining in nine three-pointers in the game while finishing with a career game high 35 points. No Geneva player was able to break double digits as Heidi Mann and Miranda Heaney paced the GT′s with eight points each. McClain has since compiled a total of 33 baskets from beyond the arch at a 35% contributing to her average 14.0 points a game. The Cougars rebounding game is dominated by freshman Jess Hinkle with 8.8 rebounds a game (50 offensive rebounds, 109 defensive rebounds).

As both teams unit to battle the common opponent- cancer, as part of the Play 4Kay foundation and Basketball′s cancer awareness month of February, the

heat will be turned up all the way as the second win of the 2013-14 season between opponents is up for grabs.

On Wednesday Geneva will host Thomas More during Geneva′s Community Night with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
