Genevans_700_3.jpgThe Genevans, the student choir of Geneva College, will be performing "Psalms for the King" throughout the group′s Spring Break tour this March. The repertoire for the concerts explores the major themes of the book of Psalms.

In this his second season as The Genevans′ conductor, Dr. David Kenneth Smith will present works by Mendelssohn, Palestrina, Bach and Brahms, as well as selections by living composers and pieces commissioned for the choir. The centerpiece will be Mendelssohn′s double choir setting of Psalm 2. A piece written by Geneva Professor of Bible Dr. Byron Curtis; an arrangement of Michael Tabon′s Psalm 118 O Thank the Lord for He is Good by Dr. Smith; and Keep me, O God, which was composed by previous director of The Genevans Dr. Robert Copeland, will also be included.

The tour will begin with a preview performance at the Reformed Presbyterian Home in Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, followed by Ohio concerts in Hartville, Centerville, Dayton and Cuyahoga Falls, and closes in Hudson on March 10.

The group′s annual campus spring concerts will be Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29. Both will be in Old Main′s John White Chapel at 7:30 p.m.

The Genevans will also take a 21-day, 16-concert tour in May, performing in the Philippines in venues in Manila, Davao, Malaybalay, Cagayan de Oro, Batad Ifugao, Baguio and, finally, in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. The group will end the tour at dawn on the 13,435-foot peak of Mount Kinabalu.

The Genevans is heir to a tradition of choral singing dating from the early years of the college of a century and a half ago. The mission of the choir expresses Geneva′s belief that music, as one of God′s finest gifts, meets a deep, universal need in people. The choir′s repertoire is broad and varied, reflecting the belief that "all of life, always and everywhere, is life in the presence of God."
