Geneva College will host theater group Amiche and its performance of Song of Songs on Thursday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. in John White Chapel of Old Main. The performance is free and open to the public.

Amiche is the Italian word for women friends. The group is comprised of friends Sarah Carleton, a 2002 Geneva graduate, and soprano Lara Lynn Cottrill.

Song of Songs is an hour-long adaption of Carleton′s poetry based on the Hebrew Song of Songs, interspersed with musical selections chosen by Cottrill, providing a unique view of the ancient texts as they come to life in a modern setting. "This new work looks at the power and mystery of love as it unfolds in the midst of community," the group explains.

According to Carleton and Cottrill, "Our work has grown out of our friendship and our mutual love of art and creating together. It is our hope that through our work we can celebrate women, art, and friendship and that we can create work that shares our passions with the world."

Carleton.jpgCarleton graduated from Geneva with a B.A. in English education. She went on to receive her M.F.A. in Theater Performance from the University of Louisville in 2009 Carleton′s work can also be seen in Maple-Films 48 Hour Film Projects from the last three years, through which she won a best supporting actress in 2013 in Cleveland, OH.

Cottrill.jpgCottrill graduated from the University of Miami in 2005 with a bachelor′s in vocal performance and from Eastman School of Music in 2007 with a master′s of voice performance and literature. She recently performed with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh for its 2013 season in Shining Brow as Mamah.
