Geneva College faculty and staff will open their homes to hungry students on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 for the Student Programs-sponsored event, "Homecookin′."
Volunteers will host up to six students per house for a home-cooked meal that will foster a continual connection between faculty and staff with the student body. This event will give students the opportunity to get off of campus, enjoy a delicious meal and get to know a faculty or staff member outside of work and class.
"Part of the beauty of going to a small Christian college is the incredible community that you get to experience," said Ryan Holt, Student Programs Director. "Our hope with Homecookin' is to build on the great community that is already in place here at Geneva."
Once the Student Programs Office has collected registration forms, staff and faculty will be paired with a group of students that are interested based on the transportation available and group size.
"Although students are already able to interact with professors in the classroom and on campus, nothing cultivates real relationships like sitting around a table enjoying great food and great conversation together," added Holt.
Dr. Gordon Richards, Chair of the Department of Business, said, "To me, the food is of minimal consequence, although it will be good, I assure you. For me it's about fellowship. It's about relationships and expanding our reach into and around the student body of Geneva. Maybe it's just a night of something different for the students to do off campus; maybe it is the beginning of a more enduring connection. I'll let God work through the evening to see what it becomes."
Students can sign up to participate in the Student Programs Office, located in the Student Center one level below the Brig.
