Second half comeback falls short; Geneva falls 56-39

gcmbball13060.jpgBeaver Falls, PA- Geneva played some of its most emotional basketball in the second half, but it wasn′t enough to offset tremendous first-half shooting by Grove City and the Golden Tornadoes lost their 15th straight game,

"I like to see that kind of emotion," said Geneva coach Jeff Santarsiero. "I love the fact that we played that hard, but you have to back it up and we didn′t. We missed 14 free throws and you can′t do that and win."

In the first half, Grove City made six of nine three-pointers and all 11 free throws and built a 39-22 lead. Those percentages dropped significantly in the second half sad the Wolverines made just four of 26 shots from the field, missed all four three-point attempts, and made just nine of 16 free throws.

However, Geneva couldn′t capitalize, making just four of 19 shots themselves and making just seven of 20 free throws.

"I feel bad for the seniors, we just can′t get over the hump," Santarsiero said. "We played hard but we just can′t get over that hump."

Geneva was led by a pair of seniors - Jordan Harbison (Portersville Christian School) had 14 points and Zach Hayward (Blackhawk) had a season-high 10 rebounds.

Geneva, now 4-19 and 0-14 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference, next plays Wednesday at Washington and Jefferson.
