Waynesburg′s first half run dooms Geneva; Golden Tornadoes fall 81-64

gcmbball13060.jpgBeaver Falls, PA- The Golden Tornadoes got off to a fast start against Waynesburg, building an early five-point lead and the game was still tied 38-38 with 1:37 left in the first half. But the Yellow Jackets finished the half with a 10-0 run and Geneva couldn′t recover.

In addition to the 10-0 run, Geneva suffered another loss in the final minute of the first half as freshman Chaese Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH) was injured with 50 seconds left and did not return. In his 12 minutes of action to that point, Vaudrin had scored 11 points.

In addition, the Golden Tornadoes were playing without junior Zac Rorick (Riverside, PA), their leading scorer with an elbow injury. Both he and Vaudrin could miss Wednesday′s game at St. Vincent as well.

In the second half, Geneva cut the gap to three at 58-55 with 9:08 left as senior Jacob Grim (Mohawk) hit a pair of free throws but Waynesburg answered with a 12-point run and Geneva didn′t threaten again.

"We played better at times," said Geneva coach Jeff Santarsiero. "But we had stretches where we turned the ball over too many times and, basically, just didn′t do anything right. We′ve got to eliminate those.

"Plus, losing Chaese hurt. We′ll have to see when he and Zac can come back."

Geneva was led in scoring by senior Jordan Harbison (Portersville Christian School) with 15 points while junior Tyler Damazo (Blackhawk) and senior Trevor York (Sycamore Covenant, IN) added 12 each.
