Merkle finishes second in mile at 13-team Baldwin-Wallace Meet

All-Team.jpgBerea, OH, - Senior Alayna Merkle (Chambersburg, PA) was the top Geneva finisher at the Baldwin-Wallace Indoor Track Meet and led a group of 17 different Golden Tornadoes that finished in the top 10.

The top finisher among the men was senior Jesse Herman (Greencastle, PA) as he finished sixth in the 400 meters. With 11 of the top 120 finishers on the men′s side, the Geneva men finished 10th while the women finished 13th.

Both teams return to action Friday at the NCCAA Indoor Championships.

Geneva athletes that placed in the Top Ten at Baldwin-Wallace

Women:

Alayna Merkle, 2nd in 1 mile, 5:34.30

Rebecca Miller, 4th in 5000 meters, 20:37.06

Jena Gunnett: 7th in 5000 meters, 22:22.75

Morgan Peaco, 8th in triple jump, 38-feet-3

Sara Williams, 8th in shot put, 37-7 ¾

Rebekah Rupert, 9th in long jump, 13-4

Men:

Jesse Herman, 6th in 400 meters, 53.74

Josh Guiser: 7th in 55 meters, 6.70 s

Bill Oplinger: 7th in long jump, 19-feet-11

Ken Kutcel: 8th in 5000 meters, 16:36.91

Isaac Barringer: 9th in shot put, 39-7 ¾

4x200 relay team finished 3rd: Cameron Unrath, Jacob Mellinger, Ryan White, and Josh Guiser

4x400 relay team finished 6th: Jesse Herman, Billy Thomas, Dalton Paxson, and Nathan Dunn
