GAA-PA.jpgGeneva Across America (GAA), a group devoted to fundraising for Geneva College through team bicycle rides, is organizing its next excursion. In June 2014, the team will launch Geneva Across America-Pennsylvania, during which riders will cycle from Erie, PA, to Morgantown, WV, on a four-day, 350-mile trek.

Applications are now being accepted for the June 25-28 bike trip, at a cost of $400 per participant. Members of the team will pay their own registration fees so that all money raised can be applied directly to the Geneva Across America scholarship.

"Our hope and dream is to create an annual ride that will involve students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends of Geneva," says Dr. Michael Loomis, Dean of Student Development and the driving force behind GAA. "For the next couple of years we will ride across Pennsylvania and then consider taking off to other states that have a significant number of Geneva alumni, such as Ohio, New York, Indiana or Florida."

GAA′s first organized trip occurred in the spring of 2009, when the team rode from the site of Geneva′s original campus in Northwood, OH, to its current campus in Beaver Falls, PA. Following a few more trips on a trail between Pittsburgh and Washington DC, the GAA undertook its biggest trip in the summer of 2013-a 3,708-mile, 10-week transcontinental bicycle trip from the Pacific to the Atlantic. The funds raised through this effort -over $50,000-were used to establish the Geneva Across America scholarship for deserving students with financial need.

The GAA-PA′s stated purpose is to "experience Christian community by living and working together, enjoy the challenge and adventure of cycling, continue to spread the news about Geneva College, and continue raise money for the GAA Scholarship fund."

"How cool would it be to see 100 riders in Geneva College cycling jerseys riding across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania?" Loomis states, before adding a call for riders to join the team: "Come one, come all!"

Information about joining the GAA-PA team or donating to the scholarship fund is available at www.geneva.edu/gaa_pa.
