Ft. Pierce, FL - Geneva′s bats came alive on the second of action in Florida. The Golden Tornadoes scored just two runs on the first day but scored more than that in first inning on Tuesday, scoring three in a 10-1 rout of Hilbert. The success continued into the second game as Geneva built a 6-0 lead only to see Hilbert′s bats come alive and the Golden Tornadoes fell 9-6.
In the opener, Geneva took advantage of eight walks and two hit batsmen by Hilbert and added 10 hits of its own to win in a romp. The Golden Tornadoes got all the runs it would need in the very first inning as Geneva scored three times as Dan Jeffreys (Moon) drove home the first and scored the second run. Jeremy Herzog (Freedom) drove home the third run of the inning and led Geneva′s attack with three hits. Jeffreys and Andy Santana (Desert Christian, Dominican Republic) each had two hits and Jeffreys. Herzog and T.J. Lambert (Blackhawk) each drove in two runs. Santana had the game′s only extra base hit with a double. Jeff Parker (Timothy Christian, NJ) got the win by recording five innings of two-hit relief.
In the nightcap, the Golden Tornadoes led 6-0 after five innings but allowed five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to suffer the loss. In the fifth, Hilbert used three singles, three walks, and an error before there were even two outs to close the gap to 6-5. In the sixth, two walks, two hits and two errors provided enough runs for the lead.
Earlier, Geneva had scored five in the second inning, sending 11 batters to the plate. Andy Teets (Freedom), JC Ackerman (Worthington Christian, OH), and Donnie Tong (Tree of Life Christian, OH) had the only hits of the evening as the Golden Tornadoes took advantage of two walks, two hit batsmen, and an error. Teets, Tong and Garrett Swanson (Blackhawk) each had two hits for Geneva. Jonathon Griebel (Whetstone, OH) took the loss in relief.
Geneva will return to action Wednesday with a doubleheader against Delaware Valley College.
