WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Geneva softball dropped a pair of 5-3 decisions in Winter Haven - first to Greensboro (NC) and then to Husson (ME).

"I guess we could be in snow," said Geneva head coach Van Zanic. "Everybody has been in the same boat - practicing inside for the past seven weeks - so it was good to just get outside and play.

"We had our opportunities in both games. They got big hits and we didn′t."

In the opener, Geneva fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but came back and tied the game in the second on a single by starting pitcher Samantha Johnson (Franklin Regional). A ground out by Brittany Clark (Trinity) gave the Golden Tornadoes a 3-2 lead in the fourth but Greensboro tied the game in the sixth and a two-run single by Greensboro′s Sarah Connolly in the seventh provided the margin of victory.

In the second game, Husson took a 3-0 lead after two innings but came back to tie with one run on an RBI double by Dayna Hicks (Blackhawk) in the fifth and two more in the sixth when Ashley Davis (Springfield Local, OH) scored the first run with a triple and then scored on an RBI groundout by Lucia Fee (Mohawk). Husson, however, got the win in the bottom of the sixth with two runs. Johnson and Christina Fuqua (Richard Montgomery, MD) had two singles in the game and Rachel Lee (Plum) had a single and a double.

The softball team will return to action Tuesday with game against Washington College (MD) and Illinois Wesleyan.
