Winter Haven, FL- Given the winter Pennsylvania has encountered, it′s taking a while to adjust to better weather - even on a trip to Florida. The Golden Tornadoes finally did get adjusted and scored nine runs while pounding out 10 hits in a 9-1 win over Beloit. Earlier in the day, Geneva′s late really fell just short as the Golden Tornadoes fell to Marietta 3-2.

"I think we′ve turned the corner and are used to being outside after months of hitting inside," said Geneva head coach Van Zanic. "We played well today. We didn′t win them both but we played well."

In the opener, win, Geneva took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI by Taylor Yarletts (Mohawk) but Marietta erased the lead with a three-run third inning. The Golden Tornadoes rallied in the seventh and cut the lead to 3-2 in an RBI by Andrea Hinds (Montrose, PA) and had the winning and tying run in scoring position but couldn′t get the run in. Freshman third baseman Lucia Fee (Mohawk) had three hits for Geneva.

In the second game, the Golden Tornadoes struck early and often, scoring two in the first to set the stage and ending the game after six innings because of the mercy rule. In the second inning, Ashley Davis (Springfield Local, OH) drove in both runs with the first of her two hits. Lucia Fee, the hitting star of the first game also drove in two runs as did Mackenzie Kemerer (Freedom). Laura Beck (Canfield, OH) had three hits, including two doubles, and scored three times.

The softball team, now 2-5, will return to Florida action Friday with games against Mount St. Joseph and Suffolk.
