gcsoftball13086.jpgWinter Haven, FL- Freshman third baseman Lucia Fee (Mohawk) had four hits on Thursday and picked up where she left off on Friday with three more. In a 3-2 win over Mount St. Joseph in the first game, Fee had a two-run single in the third-inning to tie the score in the second inning.

In the second game, an 8-4 extra inning win over Suffolk, she had a single and a double. She now has 10 hits this season as Geneva improved to 4-5 overall.

"Lucia has been hitting well," said Geneva coach Van Zanic. "It was good to win two close games today. We came down here to play good competition and now we′ve found ways to win those games.

"We′re playing very well as a team now."

Fee isn′t the only hot Genevan, either. Sophomore pitcher Samantha Johnson (Franklin Regional) got the complete game win in both games, striking out seven and walking none in the first and striking out six while walking one in the second. She also drove home the winning run in the second game with a single in the top of the eighth.

In the first game, it was a sacrifice fly by sophomore Samantha Goodnow (Leonardtown, MD) that was the game winning hit.

In the second game, Geneva came from behind twice to tie the game before winning in the extra frame. The first comeback was in the second inning when Ashley Davis (Springfield Local, OH) walked and came around to score when a single by Laura Beck (Canfield, OH) was mishandled and both scored.

In the sixth, Geneva scored twice to tie as Dayna Hicks (Blackhawk) and Taylor Yarletts (Mohawk) drew bases-loaded walks. In the eighth, Geneva scored three more runs after Johnson′s single. Yarletts drove in the next with another bases-loaded walk and Beck′s second double of the game brought home two more runs. Beck finished with three hits.

The softball team, now 4-5, concludes its Florida trip Saturday with three games - against Wheaton, Staten Island, and Catholic.
