Geneva Football Attends 'Faith, Sports and Pittsburgh'

fsp2.jpgBeaver Falls, PA- Faith, sports and Pittsburgh are three words that Geneva football student-athletes know very well. On Saturday, March 29, over 60 Golden Tornadoes took advantage of the unique opportunity to attend an event combining all three into one event: ′For Men Only: Faith, Sports, Pittsburgh.′

The event packed Stage AE in Pittsburgh with current and former Pittsburgh Steelers, including Steeler′s chaplain Chad Johnson, for the purpose of telling their personal stories of combining faith and sports.

Geneva football student-athletes were encouraged to attend the event by every member of the coaching staff and financially supported by local churches from the Beaver Valley and Pittsburg areas.

"It was great to go to hear well known athletes and how they personally integrate faith in what they are doing on a higher platform and how they came to Christ" commented starting junior defensive back Ed Schuster.

Offensive Line teammate Mike Underwood added, "It was good to hear their stories. You realize you′re not the only person going through this stuff of how to integrate faith and hear about where they are now is very encouraging. And not only did I get to be encouraged but the whole trip out to the event was a good bonding experience for our team. Some of our men went up on stage and now we get to support them in their faith. We were really affected by this."

Head coach Geno DeMarco summarized, "Anytime your guys can hear the message of Christ in addition to the coaching staff, it is a great thing."
