Geneva College will start its spring cleaning on Saturday, April 5, 2014. All students will congregate at Metheny Fieldhouse at 11 a.m. before breaking into groups to collect trash and fulfill other duties as recommended by Geneva′s Physical Plant.

The student-led Spring Clean-Up event is sponsored by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), to kick off Geneva′s celebration of Division III week.

DIII week is a "positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community," according to sponsor NCAA′s website. The 2014 DIII week begins on Monday, April 7 and continues through Sunday, April 13.

Students are encouraged to turn out for the clean-up event, which will cover campus and may venture out on the road that leads to the local Sheetz convenience store, a well-traveled college student route.

"It is always wonderful to have support from both students and faculty at the sporting events across campus and appreciate the encouragement of the campus and administration," says Linda Sumner, women′s soccer head coach and the SAAC facility representative.

This year′s clean up follows on the heels of last year′s April clean-up, which was unfortunately snowed out. The SAAC has led many other events this school year, however, including: collecting money for Tiger Pause Food Bank in Beaver Falls in September; working with the Wellness Committee on the 5K Walk and Run for breast cancer awareness in October; and sponsoring a blood drive with the Red Cross on November 21.

"As a SAAC group," Sumner states, "we try to generate a student-athlete voice within the institution and organize community service efforts. As busy as our student athletes are, they do a great job of getting involved and doing what they can to support other teams on campus and working together in the community."

Geneva College invites students to accept the challenge of an academically excellent, Christ-centered and affordable education. Offering nearly 40 undergraduate majors, Adult Degree Programs with fully online and campus-based options, and seven graduate degrees, programs are recognized for their high quality. U.S. News & World Report ranks Geneva as a Top 10 Best Value in the North Region with one of the Top 100 engineering programs in the nation. Adhering to the inerrancy of Scripture, a Geneva education is grounded in God′s word as well as in a core curriculum designed to prepare students vocationally to think, write and communicate well in today′s world.
