Sophomore pitcher Sam Johnson selected as PAC pitcher of the week

gcsoftball13039.jpgBeaver Falls, PA- Sophomore pitcher Samantha Johnson (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) was selected as the Presidents′ Athletic Conference pitcher of the week. While facing Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday, Johnson allowed her first run in the ninth with two outs, and then closed the game with her fifth strikeout.

After the game on Tuesday head coach Van Zanic commented, "That's what a stopper is for, she's one of the top pitchers in the conference and showed it. W&J is a very good team and this was a huge game for us."

On Saturday Johnson continued at the mound against Waynesburg where she pitched two complete games in the doubleheader. In game one, Johnson pitched a shutout and recorded her sixth win in the nightcap.

Johnson′s three win week was packaged with a 1.64 earned run average and 15 strikeouts for the Golden Tornadoes.
