Geneva baseball sweeps Bethany

Beaver Falls, PA- Geneva came up with clutch hits when it needed them and swept Bethany Saturday afternoon, 6-3 and 5-3.

In the first game, the score was tied 2-2 after five innings but the first five Geneva batters in the sixth reached base to key a four-run rally that clinched the game. Tyler Damazo (Blackhawk), Dan Jeffreys (Moon), Aaron Witman (Shalom Christian Academy, PA) and Anthony Monteparte (Latrobe) led off with hits and scored. All four finished the game with two hits.

"We finally put all facets of the game together," said Geneva coach Alan Sumner. "We got great pitching from freshman Jeff Parker in the first game and sophomores Ian McDonald and Drew Nichols in the second.

"We had a strong offensive attack in both games and this was a big PAC doubleheader win for us."

Jeff Parker (Timothy Christian, NJ) pitched a complete game in the first while Ian McDonald (West Shore Christian Academy, PA) started and got the win in the second with Drew Nichols (Wilmington, PA) pitching 2 2/3 innings for the save,

Ion the second game, Geneva took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed. The offensive stars were Jake Debo (New Brighton) with two hits and two runs batted in and Donnie Tong (Tree of Life Christian, OH) with two hits and two runs scored.

Geneva, now 9-18 overall and 5-9 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference, hosts Bethany Monday.
