Geneva, Waynesburg baseball split pitching gems; Each wins one in their last at-bat

gcbaseball13140.jpgWaynesburg, PA- Geneva and Waynesburg each made the most of good pitching Saturday with Waynesburg winning the opener 1-0 on a one-out single by Eric Crum (his third hit of the game) in the bottom of the seventh inning

In the second game, Geneva staked Waynesburg to an early 2-0 lead but scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to capture the win. Andy Santana (Desert Christian, Dominican Republic) led off the seventh with a double, advanced to third on a bunt by T.J. Lambert (Blackhawk) and scored on a single by Zach Ackerman (Worthington Christian, OH). It was Ackerman′s third hit of the game and he drove in two of the three runs.

"The first game was a great pitcher′s duel with both teams struggling to get the key hit but Waynesburg finally did," said Geneva coach Alan Sumner. "The second game was similar but we got the big hit from Zach Ackerman.

"Jeff Parker hung in there and battled for us. It was a big conference win for us."

Ian McDonald (West Shore Christian Academy, PA) was the hard luck loser in the first game while Jeff Parker (Timothy Christian, NJ) earned the win in the second. Santana had a double in each game. Tanner Propst (Cumberland Valley Christian, PA) got the final out for the save in the second game, getting a strikeout with the tying run on third base.
