Geneva softball sweeps Chatham; Sets up first place showdown with Thomas More

DSC0317.jpgPittsburgh, PA- Geneva kept its eye on Saturday′s first-place showdown with Thomas More and got past Chatham, 8-2 and 14-1.

"Chatham isn′t an easy place to play," said Geneva coach Van Zanic. "Chatham plays much better at home and we haven′t played well there in the past but we did what we needed to do and left with two wins."

In the first game, Lucia Fee (Mohawk) had a pair of doubles and drove home four runs. Winning pitcher Samantha Johnson (Franklin Regional) also had two hits.

In the second game, Geneva pounded out 15 hits in winning in five innings. Dayna Hicks (Blackhawk) had a double and her first career home run, driving home two. Fee, winning pitcher Andrea Hinds (Montrose, PA), and Ashley Davis (Springfield Local, OH) each had two hits. Brittany Clark (Trinity, PA) had a three-run double.

Geneva, 16-11 overall and 10-2 in Presidents′ Athletic Conference play, will host Thomas More, 22-7 and 11-1, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday.
