312101.jpgGrove City, PA - Samantha Johnson (Franklin Regional) pitched all 14 innings of a 9-1, 5-0 doubleheader win over Grove City, striking out 16 and walking none. In addition, she had five hits and drove home four runs as Geneva won its fifth straight, improving 11-8 and 5-1 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

Making Johnson′s performance even more impressive is that her younger brother still attends Franklin Regional and had a friend stabbed in the incident at the school.

"It was a very emotional day for her," said Geneva coach Van Zanic. "But she stepped up for us.

"We had a good solid day, really solid top to bottom. Getting three runs in the first inning of the first game makes everyone relax. It was the first day we′ve been able to put together two games without an error, too, so we′re really happy with where we′re at now."

In that first inning of the first game, Geneva freshman Lucia Fee (Mohawk) drove Ashley Davis (Springfield Local, OH) home with the first run and eventually scored on a single by Andrea Hinds (Montrose, PA). The Golden Tornadoes pounded out 15 hits in the opener with three hits each from Johnson and Christina Fuqua (Richard Montgomery, MD). Davis, Fee, and Laura Beck (Canfield, OH) each had two hits and Fuqua had three runs batted in.

In the second game, Geneva also scored in the first inning and, with Johnson on the mound, that was enough. Fuqua, Fee, and Mackenzie Kemerer (Freedom) each had two hits in the game with Johnson and Kemerer each driving in two runs.

Geneva visits Mount Aloysius Thursday.
