Beaver Falls, PA- Geneva had planned on playing a doubleheader on senior day but rain wiped out the second game and the 9-6 loss to Thiel turns out to be the season finale. The Golden Tornadoes finish 12-26 and 8-15 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.
Geneva out hit Thiel 14-9 and had base runners in every inning but it wasn′t enough as Thiel scored four runs in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Garrett Swanson (Blackhawk) had a two-run double for Geneva that tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth but Thiel answered with five in the fifth to settle the issue.
Senior Jeremy Herzog (Freedom) had three hits and two runs batted in for Geneva while Swanson, Tyler Damazo (Blackhawk), and Zach Ackerman (Worthington Christian, OH) each had two hits.
"It was a tough way to end the season," said Geneva coach Alan Sumner. "It was a difficult year but one where many different players had the opportunity to grow and come back better next year.
"Many thanks to our seniors for a great four years."
