pac-champs-soft-logo-14.jpgCrestview Hills, KY- Geneva came up with two dramatic last at-bat finishes at the Presidents′ Athletic Conference Tournament to reach the second day of the double elimination tournament undefeated.

In the first game, Geneva trailed going into the bottom of the sixth by a score of 2-1 but rallied for four runs with the key hit a triple by Laura Beck (Canfield, OH) and dispatched Washington & Jefferson 5-2. In the second, the Golden Tornadoes broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh with a two-out, two-run double by freshman Lucia Fee (Mohawk) and defeated top-seeded and host Thomas More 5-4.

"Obviously I′m real proud of what we did today," said Geneva coach Van Zanic. "Samantha (Johnson) pitched well in both games. Laura Beck had the big hit and game one and Lucia has been coming up with the big hit for us all year.

"We′re in a great spot but, like I told the girls, we haven′t won anything yet. We still have work to do but for someone to beat us, they′ll have to win three (Friday)."

In the first game, Beck was the hitting star with a single, triple, and a fourth inning home run with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Christina Fuqua (Richard Montgomery, MD) had her first double of the day as she added two more in the second game. In the second game, winning pitcher Samantha Johnson (Franklin Regional) had three hits and drove home the first three runs before Fee had the dramatic double.

The conference winner will get an automatic berth in one of the NCAA Division III regionals that start Thursday. Geneva will start action Friday with a 23-14 record.
