Update on Geneva′s Minor League Pitcher Mike Jeffreys

Beaver Falls, PA- During the summer of 2013, Mike Jeffreys was pitching for the Chugiak Eagle River Chinooks, preparing for his senior season for the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes. After throwing 94 mph fastballs during the all-star game, though, it is not surprising that Jeffreys was approached by a handful of scouts following the game.

Late July of 2013, Jeffreys signed with the Kansas City Royals and appeared in five weeks of play before the minor league season ended.

After catching up with Jeffreys, Geneva′s head baseball coach, Alan Sumner, commented, "He has been training in Arizona since March and recently he was assigned to the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League. It was a no-brainer to have him pursue to minor leagues and it is great to see him jumping right in."

The Chukars′ season began on Tuesday June 17th; Jeffreys will make his first professional start tonight, Thursday June 19th against Orem at 7:15 pm. To follow the Chukars′ and Jeffreys the schedule and results are found at http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t444

Jeffreys finished the 2013 baseball season at Geneva posting a 1.73 ERA in 67.2 innings pitched with 106 strikeouts and only nine walks.
