Geneva College′s Pisgah Program is gearing up for its annual Freshman Expedition, which will take place August 15-19, 2014. Freshman Expedition is an outdoor orientation experience specifically designed to help incoming, first-year students transition into college life, establish healthy goals, develop relationships and grow in their relationship with the Lord.
Pisgah Program Director Becky Case says, "The trip is designed to help students transition well from high school to college, so they often take away lots of things from the trip. Students reflect on where they have come from and the crossroads they are at, what they want their college experience to be and the pieces needed to make this happen."
Students participate in group activities, tackle different challenge course events, cook and eat together, have devotions, live and camp outdoors, and reflect on the experiences
Case designs the program to serve as a first look at the college experience. "Since this transition is about navigating the shift from dependence to interdependence academically, socially, spiritually, emotionally, et cetera, we have different aspects of the trip that address each of these areas."
Students who experience Freshman Expedition often come away from it with an advantage. "One of the things students articulate most often after the trip is that they are grateful that they were able to develop deep relationships with a small group of folks prior to Welcome Week, when all the other incoming students come to campus."
Freshman Expedition will take place at Geneva′s multi-element challenge course facility. Registration is due July 31, 2014. The cost is $200 if registered by July 15 and $220 after that date.
