New Wilmington, PA - Both Geneva men′s and women′s cross country team competed at Westminster′s Fisher Invite Saturday morning. Both team′s finished fifth place among the competition.
"My initial impression is that we raced very patiently and very disciplined for such a young team. If we continue to train and race that way, we will improve dramatically" commented head coach Brian Yowler.
Sophomore stand out, Ken Kutcel (Medina, OH/Medina), finished second out of 57 runners in the men′s race. Kutcel finished with a time of 28:27.9. "He (Kutcel) fought hard for that second place finish, it is a big deal." As a team Geneva′s fifth place finish was out of six teams, finishing above LaRoche.
In women′s action, the fifth place finish was out of eight teams competing. Leading the Golden Tornadoes was senior captain Anna (Kluitenburg) Wargo (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) with a time of 25:39.2, good for a 16th place finish out of 93 women′s runners. Freshman Madelyn Blosser (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) crossed the finish line next for Geneva for a 19th place finish (26:03.9).
Geneva will race again on the morning of September 13th at the Penn State Behrend Invite.
