Geneva football, Nate Cannon, selected as ECAC player of the week

Cannon14.jpgBeaver Falls, PA- Geneva football Golden Tornado, Nate Cannon (Palm Beach Gardens, FL/Kings Academy), was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Southwest Special Teams Player of the Week (September 7, 2014).

During his first colligate appearance, Cannon returned a punt for a 95 yard touchdown in the third quarter at Frostburg State Saturday night. Cannon′s touchdown return, setting Geneva′s single game longest punt return. The record was previously set by Ron Michel in 1997 against Walsh (89 yard touchdown return). In addition to his record setting return, Cannon grabbed an interception in the second quarter for 15 yards.

Geneva College recently joined the ECAC June 1, 2014. Director of Geneva Athletics, Van Zanic commented, "One of the many benefits of being an ECAC member is to provide additional opportunities for individual honors. We have many worthy student-athletes that will deserve recognition throughout the year and the ECAC will provide those opportunities."

Cannon′s performance in the season opening weekend has been decorated as the ECAC Player of the Week, Presidents′ Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, and Geneva College′s male student-athlete of the week.
