Geneva conquers conference foes for 3-1 PAC record, 7-5 overall

vball-roof.jpgBeaver Falls, PA- Geneva conquered conference foes, St. Vincent (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) and Washington & Jefferson (25-21, 25-14, 25-15) for a 3-1 record in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference, 7-5 overall.

Against the St. Vincent Bearcats, Geneva′s Courtney Aldridge (Warren, OH/Labrae) put down 12 kills while Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) hit nine kills in the win. Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) gained 27 assists, Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) 14 assists. On defense, Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) lead with 16 digs supported by Alexis Ritson (Irwin, PA/Hempfield) with 14 digs. The team earned six blocks in the first victory of the night.

Stepping back onto the court against the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents, Geneva′s offense exploded with Hughes reaching 13 kills, Olivia Test (Negley, OH/Heartland Christian) with 11.

"We played a great game. Olivia′s kills went above their blocks which was very impressive and very fun to watch" said co-head coach Curt Conser.

Naples lead the GTs defense with 14 digs over the Presidents, Dickson contributed 12. The Golden Tornadoes finished the three game match with five team blocks.

The GTs head to Franciscan on Thursday September 18 and a conference tri-match at Waynesburg to face the Yellow Jackets and the Grove City Wolverines at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday September 20. Volleyball returns home on Wednesday September 24 for a 7 p.m. start against Mt. Union.
