Volleyball defeats tournament host, losses to 11th nationally ranked; overall record to 5-5

Fredericksburg, VA - Geneva found another mark in the win and loss columns today after facing Mary Washington (25-16, 17-25, 25-17, 25-19) and Eastern (12-25, 16-25, 21-25) bringing its overall record to 5-5.

"The highlight of the first was match was that we had 16 team blocks. They kept swinging again and again but our block was there getting the job done" said co-head coach Curt Conser.

Geneva′s 3-1 win over tournament host, Mary Washington, included the offensive efforts of Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) with 11 kills, Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) with six kills and eight blocks and Erin Smith (Sewickley, PA/Ambridge) with four kills and six blocks. Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) gathered 30 assists in the victory while Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) collected 11 digs.

In the three set loss to 11th nationally ranked, Eastern, Geneva′s Olivia Test (Negley, OH/Heartland Christian) led the offense with nine kills supported by Smith with five kills and Hughes with eight kills. In addition, Smith contributed five blocks and Hughes two. Dickson collected 19 digs is game.

Geneva volleyball is back at home and into conference play Saturday September 12th against St. Vincent (4 p.m.) and Washington & Jefferson (8 p.m.).

Olivia Test (Negley, OH/Heartland Christian) was selected for the all-tournament team for her work throughout the weekend. Test finished with 23 total kills and seven blocks.
