CFP.jpgThere are many ways for Geneva College students to serve the Beaver Falls community, and the Center for Faith and Practice (CFP) serves as a bridge to help them get involved. Currently, there are ongoing service opportunities with Tiger Pause and Dare2XL.

In partnership with Tiger Pause Youth Ministries, Geneva students have volunteered to tutor within the Beaver Falls community for nearly 20 years. Students serve in multiple locations, including Tiger Pause′s downtown center, elementary schools and local housing developments. The purpose of these programs is to share the love of Christ while providing children with a solid academic foundation for life.

Geneva students also partner with DARE2XL, an after-school program in local schools that aims to develop discipline and motivation with elementary students. It provides these students with a space to learn study skills, prevents problem behaviors and develops self-esteem. DARE2XL works across Western Pennsylvania, and the Beaver Falls program is known for its enthusiasm and involvement.

"As the community engagement coordinator for tutoring, I believe that DARE2XL and Tiger Pause are so important because we're working with the future generation," says student Michelle Cantrell. "As Geneva students, we have the opportunity to leave our mark in this community by helping the kids here in Beaver Falls by tutoring them and being their mentors."

There are currently opportunities for students to volunteer in the afternoon, Monday through Thursday.

Typically, students are asked to pick one day and commit to weekly tutoring.

"It is a small time commitment for students, but an excellent way to utilize skills, grow in experience, and connect with the local community," says Kate Krieger, graduate assistant for the CFP.

Geneva students who are interested in participating in either of these tutoring opportunities should email Missy Nyeholt at mnyeholt@geneva.edu for more information or stop by the CFP offices, which are located in the Student Center.

Geneva College invites students to step forward and leap ahead with an academically excellent, Christ-centered and affordable education. Offering nearly 40 undergraduate majors, Adult Degree Programs with fully online and campus-based options, and high-demand advanced graduate degrees, Geneva's programs are recognized for their high quality. Adhering to the inerrancy of Scripture, a Geneva education is grounded in God′s word as well as in a core curriculum designed to prepare students vocationally to think, write and communicate well in today′s world.
