Volleyball works for ultimate comeback against conference leader

Volleyball works for ultimate comeback against conference leader Bethany

gc-vball-9-14-016.jpgBeaver Falls, PA- Geneva volleyball worked uphill to find its 3-2 win (28-30, 10-25, 25-22, 25-21, 18-16) over Presidents′ Athletic Conference leader Bethany. The win raises Geneva′s overall record to 17-8, 10-2 in the league.

Geneva took Bethany far into the first set but lost with the final set score of 30-28.

Set two Bethany rolled over Geneva 25-10, leaving Geneva 0-2 in the match.

Fighting to stay alive, the Golden Tornadoes avoided any sign of a sweep by the Bethany Bison in a 25-22 set victory.

In set four Geneva moved from avoiding a sweep to making a statement about a possible comeback - which is exactly what they did. Geneva sealed set four; 25-21.

Set five, naturally, brought fans to their feet - and kept them standing. Geneva and Bethany battled to an 18-16 final set score with the Golden Tornadoes on top.

Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) lead Geneva′s offensive in the thriller with 15 kills supported by Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) who earned 11 kills. Setting up the kills was sophomore Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) finishing with 47 assists. Geneva′s stellar blocking game finished with eight team blocks.

On defense, Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) and McKala King (Uniontown, OH/Lake) lead the Golden Tornadoes. Dickson finished the match with 18 digs, King finished with 16.
